Farm & Feast Best Crops to Plant in the Demo
A soil ranking built from Steam farm screenshots and named recipes — not guessed grow timers.
This crop tier list answers a demo-night question: if the Closed morning is short, which beds deserve the hose? Farm & Feast does not print a public spreadsheet of growth minutes, so the ranks below use three public facts: which plants appear in official farm art, which recipes name them, and which seeds the market actually sells. Letters are priorities, not morals. A pumpkin bed is pretty. It is still a B if Tomato Soup is starving.
S tier — plant these before you wander
Tomatoes. The teaching farm shot is a tomato patch beside carrots, farmer mid-hose. Tomato Soup in the recipe book spends tomato plus cream. Rigatoni’s detail pane puts a tomato in the ingredient row (1/47 in that screenshot). If you water one crop in Farm & Feast, water this one. It is the farm-to-table thesis in a red circle.
Keep a second tomato bed as soon as the first is stable. Menu counts in the 40s still look scary when a queue wants pasta and soup on the same night.
A tier — the supporting pantry
Carrots. They sit in the same teaching field as tomatoes. Carrot Seed is $2.97 in the official market basket — cheap next to $8.00 cheese. Carrot juice appears on the Take Order drink grid, so the plant feeds both kitchen and fridge. If you have leftover energy after tomatoes, carrots are the second hose.
Leafy greens / cabbage-like beds. The wide farm screenshot shows dense green blocks near yellow flowers. Vegetable Soup extras include parsley; several dishes want basil or similar herbs. Until dummy dino labels every leaf, treat “greens” as A-tier space: small beds, high menu leverage, easy to ignore until extras fail.
B tier — expand when the pantry is already honest
Peppers. Red Pepper appears as a market line at $0.60 for two. That tiny sticker means you can buy an emergency handful, which slightly lowers the need to devote a whole field. Grow them once tomatoes and carrots are on autopilot, or buy the buffer and keep the soil for S-tier.
Pumpkins. The expanded farm shot gives them a big orange rectangle, and they look like a postcard. They are not on Tomato Soup. They are not on the Rigatoni pane. Plant them on a second demo session when the restaurant already has cream, noodles, and drinks. A pumpkin farm that delays tomatoes is how a 4.6 star becomes a 3.4 star.
Yellow flowering blocks. Visible next to pumpkins. Unnamed on the public UI we have. Ranked B because they occupy soil you might have used for tomatoes. Identify them in your recipe book before you clone the bed.
C tier — curiosity, not a plan
Anything you cannot name in the book. If a seed packet does not match a pinned dish or a drink icon, it is a souvenir. The Upgrade tab might someday change this; until it does, curiosity crops wait until after Close, after the market restock, and after you still have energy.
Beach foraging / fishing yields. Steam tags include Fishing, and the shore is real in the art. Demo shots do not show a fish in the recipe book. Do not skip watering to stand in the surf on day one. Explore after the demo walkthrough is already a habit.
What we refuse to rank
Grow times. Fertilizer. Quality stars on produce. Those numbers are not on the Steam page. Anyone listing “tomatoes in 4 minutes” without a screenshot is guessing. Watch the bed. Harvest when it looks ready. Then walk back — Open will not wait.
We also refuse to rank “money crops” as if this were a spreadsheet tycoon. You do not sell raw tomatoes to a shipping box in the public art. You cook them. A crop’s value is whether tonight’s menu can fire.
A one-morning loadout
- Two tomato beds
- One carrot bed
- One greens bed if extras failed yesterday
- Hose the lot, pump the tank, harvest, leave
That loadout feeds Tomato Soup and Rigatoni, which is already a restaurant. Add pumpkins when the day planner has a spare row, not because a YouTube thumbnail likes orange.
